MacDougall Bluefin Tuna Charters

Outdoor Activities in the The Northumberland Shore

Captain Dan MacDougall is a third generation fisherman with a career spanning close to 40 years. He’s run a lobster gear since the age of 18 and acquired his Bluefin tuna license in 1980. Since that time he’s fished in multiple ports across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Dan has been a board member on fishing cooperatives and organizations, and has held various advisory roles on DFO/ industry committees. He is current president of the Gulf NS Bonafide Fisherman’s Organization and has spent over 15 years as a representative of Gulf N.S. to ALPAC (Atlantic Large Pelagic Advisory Committee), which advises the Canadian delegation of ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas).

Dan’s first mate Grace is a chip off the ol’ block and has been on her dad’s fishing boat since before she could walk. She has been his helper for the past 12 years. She started as a full time snow crab and lobster helper while attending high school and university, and has been a tuna helper since graduating with a BSc. in Human Kinetics from St.F.X in 2012. She spends the “off season” as a personal fitness trainer and continues to fish full time as a lobster, snow crab and tuna helper with Dan, until he passes the torch and she becomes a 4th generation fisher.
