Attractions in the The Northumberland Shore

Viola’s Way is a pedestrian only street that commemorates the historical significance of Viola Desmond. It lies next to the former Roseland Theatre, where entrepreneur Viola Desmond made history in 1946 by refusing to leave her seat in the main floor of the segregated theatre. The exterior wall of the former theatre on Viola’s Way features artwork by Atlantic Canadian artists inspired by Desmond’s story.
